A teen with a modified gun was arrested outside of a bar in downtown Austin

Someone 17 years old was arrested and charged with several felonies after he reportedly tried to enter a bar in downtown Austin with a gun.

A police report says that Xavier Sistrunk is facing charges of three types of felonies: third-degree felony places weapons banned, third-degree felony possession of a prohibited weapon, and state-jail felony possession of a controlled substance.

Record from court shows that at 1:30 a.m. on November 12, bar staff in the 400 block of E. 6th Street called Austin police to report a man trying to get in with a gun on his person.

He was turned away because the bar staff heard him talking to a friend about having the gun and the friend told him to “just go put it in the car.”

Staff said the person was a black man with a hooded sweater and white numbers on the back. They last saw the person walking down E. 6th Street toward Trinity Street. While the cop was talking to staff, he saw a person who looked like that leave another bar.

Court papers say that the staff then told the officer that that person was indeed the person they thought had the gun.

Police later found out that the person was Sistrunk. They saw them walking along E 6th and crossing at E 6th and Trinity, where a red hand was showing “stop.” At first, officers held him for that reason, telling him they were police and holding him down.

According to the affidavit, the officers said that Sistrunk “immediately tensed up and dropped his hands down towards his front waistband and began reaching for something in the area.”

Police told Sistrunk to “stop reaching,” but he kept pulling away and reaching for his pocket, according to court documents. An officer said that they tackled Sistrunk to the ground and put chains on him. They then searched him and found a gun hidden in his underwear.

Based on the statement, the gun was a Glock.40 caliber pistol that had been changed with a “Glock switch” to make it automatic. Forms filed with the court say that 0.6 grams of cocaine were found in a plastic bag in Sistrunk’s pocket.
